Finished Map
This game was created for a game jam, so my main goal originally was just to have something to submit. I defiantly neglected a lot as a result because I spent most of the time learning. Now that I've spent a bit more time learning, I'm taking my first stab at updating my submission. I think I have a great starting point to learn how to implement a lot of missing features.
The first think I wanted to do was finish the map. I made the decision to add a mini map in part to help take the focus off of the fact that the map wasn't done.
The next thing I wanted to fix was visual feedback. I also had a lot of feedback that users didn't know what to do after they got the first round of collectables, so I modified anything intractable to have an indicator when you get in range. In hind site, I should have done this a lot sooner. By the time the jam was over I still had a very limited understanding of how signal word, but now I makes complete sense. I set it up so that I have an independent component that I can just drop on anything and hook it up.
Lastly I added a bit more polish. I fixed a bug with the way the days count up. I was able to sprint through a lot of the game when I was putting it together and never noticed it until I saw other people struggling. I changed the keys over to being icons instead of text. I fixed so spelling and grammar errors. I'm sure there are a few more things spelled wrong and grammatically incorrect; it would be great to have someone proof read all my text.
In hindsight, entering this game jam was to boost I needed to stick with something. This first update is just proof that having deadlines are a great help to learning new things.
